Drug regulators have been urged by U.S. pediatric health advisers to continue studying weight gain and other side-effects of antipsychotic drugs because these drugs are increasingly taken by children. Jonathon Mink, a child neurology expert, said, “There is serious concern that children may be at a higher risk for serious adverse effects and we just don’t have sufficient data to answer that question.” The FDA will also be required to show label revisions and report back to health advisers in the next 12-18 months on progress in designing more studies of the drugs used for children.
