A bacterium that causes appendicitis and gum disease– fusobacterium– has been detected in colon tumors, according to new research that suggests it may set the stage for colorectal cancer, the second-deadliest malignancy. Only lung cancer kills more people each year. Most of us have probably never even heard of the fuscobacterium! We at The Good For You Network have looked into this and found that today you can get tested: there is DNA testing for the bacterium in the mouth that will tell you what kind of bacteria you have and whether it's the aggressive kind that can do damage elsewhere in your body.
