All too often, the answer seems to be to shush them, avoid eye contact and hustle away.  Meg Zucker, a woman born with only one finger on each hand and one toe on each foot, and two of her three children born with the same condition, has turned her handicap into a teaching opportunity and has written an article on this difficult subject in Parents magazine, entitled “It’s Okay to Stare: What to Do When Someone is Different.”
