Making simple lifestyle changes such as staying active, eating a healthy diet, and working to reduce stress can reduce aging at the cellular level, according to a new study published in Lancet Oncology. While the study focused on men with prostate cancer, researchers say the findings apply more broadly. Dr. Dean Ornish, advocate of the program and a professor of medicine at University of California, San Francisco, says, "People often think that it has to be a new drug or a new laser, something really high-tech and expensive to be powerful. What we are finding is the simple choices that we make every day are more powerful.” Each participant in the study exercised six days per week, for 30 minutes, ate a low-fat diet filled with vegetables and whole foods and participated in yoga and relaxation practices to help reduce stress. These healthy practices also help to reverse chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and prostate cancer in its early stages.
