Upon graduating from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Orlando Morel, eternally grateful and inspired by the Coast Guard's role in his own rescue, will serve on a cutter out of Florida whose mission will include migrant interdiction in the very waters where Morel was rescued nearly two decades ago.  At that time, Morel was a six-year-old fleeing from Haiti with his mother.  He was able to grow up safe and healthy because of the good will of people like his mother's translator, who chose to save and adopt him upon his mother's death.  The woman has said of Morel's success, "To me that's a beautiful American story… It can only happen in America."
