Singer Susan Boyle had a difficult time in school as a child and was even the victim of bullying, but the 52-year-old revealed that she is relieved to find out why. Previously told that her difficulties were due to brain damage at birth because of oxygen deprivation, Boyle now knows she has a form of autism known as Asperger’s syndrome.

Boyle shares, “I have always known that I have had an unfair label put upon me. Now I have a clearer understanding of what’s wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself.”

The former “Britain’s Got Talent” singer gained fame in 2009 and has since released four albums and sold over 14 million records worldwide. Boyle is glad to have the proper diagnosis, saying, “Asperger’s doesn’t define me. It’s a condition that I have to live with and work through, but I feel more relaxed about myself. People will have a much greater understanding of who I am and why I do the things I do.”
