Dad W. Garth Callaghan has been including notes in his daughter’s lunchbox since she was little, but after getting diagnosed with three types of cancer, he is now writing more than 800 notes so that his daughter, Emma, will keep receiving them when he’s gone. Known as “Napkin Note Dad,” Callaghan has his own Facebook page and Kindle eBook to inspire others to write notes to their children, too.

He’s also motivated by a nonprofit that promotes just how important it is to keep your promises, an organization called “Because I said I would.”

Callaghan’s napkin notes are filled with quotes and tips to motivate and inspire Emma, and to help her feel connected to him. One of his napkins shares a quote from Yoda: “Do or do not. There is no try.” Another from Audrey Hepburn: “I believe that tomorrow’s another day, and I believe in miracles.” And one from Herb Brooks: “Risk something or forever sit with your dreams.”

Parents who need a little extra inspiration can also follow Napkin Note Dad on Twitter to get ideas. Do you write notes to your children? Try using our Good for You Messages to inspire the ones you love!
