“We are at the tipping point right now, AI is going to take all the pathways of harm from social media and multiply them.” That’s what Jonathan Haidt, the best selling author of “The Anxious Generation” told USA Today.

He made this point at the Project Healthy Minds World Mental Health Day Festival:

“The technology is here to stay, but that doesn’t mean that every child has to have it all day long. So, actually, yes, we can return to a time when kids are riding bicycles, and it’s happening.”

Haidt is concerned about what the improper use of technology can do to a child’s attention span:

“When you change brain development in the first four or five years, it’s likely to have permanent effects.”

Worth considering his recommendations, which include waiting until high school before giving your children a smart phone and not allowing them to access social media until they’re sixteen. And he favors banning the use of cellphones in schools.
