When Peirce Brosnan’s daughter, Charlotte, died from ovarian cancer this summer, the actor revealed that both Charlotte’s mother and grandmother had died from the same cancer. Charlotte’s death is a reminder of the importance of learning about our genetic history and the health risks to which we are prone.

Other diseases specific to women, such as breast cancer and gestational diabetes, increase the risk of heart disease, but the increase in the number of women with heart disease is often overlooked. The National Cancer Institute recently made a recommendation to remove the word “cancer” from multiple pre-cancerous conditions, in an attempt to prevent patients from unnecessary treatments and anxiety, because these conditions grow very slowly.

You can learn some valuable lessons from the experiences of others, and that knowledge could save your life.
