Life’s Frailty, and the Gestures That Go a Long Way

FATHER FIRST Much of Jeffrey Zaslow's writing centered on the theme of love.

Tara Parker-Pope lovingly remembers her good friend, author Jeffrey Zaslow, who died in a car accident over the weekend. Whether he was penning his insightful novel about friendships among a group of women from Ames, Iowa; writing “The Last Lecture” with the Carnegie Mellon professor Randy Pausch, who delivered that now famous lecture after learning he had pancreatic cancer; or writing “The Magic Room: A Story About the Love We Wish for Our Daughters,” dedicated to his own beloved daughters, Zaslow almost always focused on themes of love, commitment, and living in the moment.  His work as a co-author also included the memoirs of Gabrielle Giffords and Chesley B. Sullenberger III, the pilot who safely landed a damaged airliner on the Hudson River in 2009.
