Bosses Say ‘Pick Up the Phone’

Do you prefer sending an email over making a phone call? You may have what phone-use consultant Mary Jane Copps calls “phone phobia.”

The Halifax, Nova Scotia consultant says, “For many people, it’s a lack of confidence that they’ll be able to say the right words in the right order in the right amount of time.”

Millennials have grown up with texting, emailing and instant messaging, so they tend to prefer these methods. It’s important that these younger workers develop good phone skills, since many older workers still prefer a traditional telephone call. Ignoring the phone can actually hurt business and have a negative impact on sales, so younger workers should be reminded that the art of a phone conversation is not dead.
